Classical Therapeutic Procedures, Instruments, Models & Demonstration Setup

>The Panchakarma Department is the therapeutic backbone of Ayurveda. It provides practical training in purification therapies, rejuvenation procedures, pre-operative (Purva Karma), operative (Pradhana Karma), and post-therapy care (Paschat Karma). A fully equipped Panchakarma lab ensures that every BAMS student understands classical methods, safety protocols, instrument handling, therapeutic indications, and contraindications.


Objectives of the Panchakarma Lab

  • To demonstrate all classical Panchakarma procedures.

  • To train students in the preparation of medicated oils, ghee, decoctions used in therapies.

  • To teach proper positioning, temperature control, pressure application, and session timing.

  • To familiarize students with therapeutic instruments.

  • To develop clinical judgement in selecting appropriate therapy for various diseases.


Laboratory Setup Requirements

1. Purva Karma Demonstration Area

Includes:

  • Snehana (Oleation)
    – Oil application methods
    – Abhyanga demonstration table
    – Vessels for heating oil
    – Shiro-abhyanga models

  • Swedana (Sudation)
    – Steam chamber
    – Steam generator
    – Nadi Sweda equipment
    – Herbal boluses for Patra Pinda Sweda and Shashtik Shali Pinda Sweda

This zone teaches preparation, dosage decisions, temperature control, and patient comfort protocols.


2. Pradhana Karma Demonstration Area

    – Tools for monitoring vitals

  • Virechana Therapy

    – Neonatal/paediatric sized paraphernalia

  • Nasya Therapy

3. Paschat Karma & Observation Area

Includes:

Students learn:

  • How to observe Samyak Lakshana

  • How to recognise complications

  • Proper follow-up and diet planning
