ENT, Ophthalmology & Dentistry in Ayurveda

Shalakya Tantra deals with

diseases above the clavicle — eye, ENT, oral cavity, head and neck. The laboratory is designed to provide hands-on training in examination procedures, instrument handling, models, and therapeutic techniques.


Objectives

  • To train students in ENT and ophthalmic examinations.

  • To demonstrate classical Ayurvedic therapies like:
    Netra Tarpana
    Karna Purana
    Nasya
    Kavala & Gandoosha

  • To showcase modern diagnostic tools and instruments.


Lab Setup Requirements

1. Ophthalmology Zone

Includes:

  • Snellen charts

  • Ishihara chart

  • Retinoscope

  • Trial lens set

  • Slit-lamp model

  • Eye anatomy models

  • Tarpana set (ghee, dough ring, eye cups)

Students practice:

  • Vision testing

  • Color blindness testing

  • Lens power estimation

  • Tarpana procedures


2. ENT Section

Contains:

  • Otoscope

  • Laryngoscope

  • Tuning forks (256, 512 Hz)

  • Nasal speculum

  • Tongue depressor

  • Throat examination light

  • Ear wax removal kit

Students learn:

  • Ear, nose, throat examination

  • Foreign-body removal basics

  • Hearing tests (Rinne, Weber)


3. Oral Cavity & Dental Section

Equipped with:

  • Mouth mirror

  • Dental probe

  • Tooth models

  • Periodontal charts

  • Scaler models

  • Oral hygiene display


4. Ayurvedic Therapeutic Section

Demonstration of:

  • Nasya

  • Netra Tarpana

  • Karna Purana

  • Gandusha/Kavala

  • Dhumapana inhalation model


5. Museum Collection

Displays:

  • Models of sinusitis, otitis, cataract

  • Cranial nerve charts

  • Tooth eruption models

  • ENT & eye cross-sectional diagrams
